Must Do’s around the castle

1. Go hiking around the castles

2. Jump from a rock in ice cold water in front of a waterfall

3. Swim in one of the lakes close to the castles

4. Visit the beautiful town Füssen and accomodation

1. Go hiking around the castles

Don’t take the cable railway up to the Tegelberg. It’s more beautiful if you go hiking around the castle. There is a very nice roundtrip up to the Tegelberg and then up to the Branderschrofen top. It’s called “Tegelberg Runde”. The start point is directly at the Tegelberg cable railway station. Walk to the left side and follow the signs: Tegelbergtalstation – Bergsportzentrum – Schutzengelweg – Rohrkopfhütte – Tegelbergbergstation – Ahornreitweg – Bleckenau – Brunnenstubenweg/Wasserleitungsweg – Jugend – Marienbrücke – Neuschwanstein – Pöllatschlucht – Tegelbergtalstation.

2. Jump from a rock in ice cold water in front of a waterfall

In the Pöllat canyon(called Pöllatschlucht) is a beautiful waterfall with ice cold water. You can jump from a rock, but be careful there are rocks in the water and it´s slippery.

3. Swim in one of the lakes close to the castles

There are beautiful lakes around the area Neuschwandstein, Füssen and Hohenschwangau. There is a lake called “Schwangausee”. It’s an half hour hike to this lake from the parking lot at the lake Alpsee by Hohenschwangau castle. The lake is incredible with crystal clear water and perfect for swimming.

4. Visit the beautiful town Füssen and accomodation

Go for dinner and ice cream to the beautiful town Füssen with the famous historic center. There are beautiful restaurants and you can even find cheap places to eat. That surprised me a lot.

It’s not very hard to find some accomodation in Füssen. A more upscale place is the highly recommended place Hotel Sonne. If you want to go in a good hostal place, go to the Old Kings Hostal.
